Adam Pelty is a nationally recognized director and choreographer best known for creating the original choreography for The Scarlet Pimpernel on Broadway. For his work on Billy Elliot - the Musical at the historic Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine, he won the IRNE (Independent Reviewers of New England) award for choreography.
Broadway credits, as an actor, include: Cyrano - The Musical, Steel Pier, A Christmas Carol, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and Titanic.
Regionally, as director/choreographer (selected): Million Dollar Quartet (Argyle Theatre, Long Island) Syncopation (Merrimack Rep, MA); Five Course Love (Capital Rep, NY); Tick, Tick, Boom (Porchlight, Chicago).
Mr. Pelty is currently Associate Professor of Musical Theatre and Dance at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina as well as Instructor of Theatre at Interlochen Center For the Arts in Michigan.
Adam Pelty has been a professional in the performing arts since his childhood in Chicago. He performed jingles for national television and radio commercials; acted in feature films; landed lead roles in stage plays and ballets. Between the ages of five and twelve, he distinguished himself as a voice over artist of note, singing in hundreds of national ad campaigns. The son of Chicago celebrity Lee Pelty, Adam appeared in his fathers nightclub act throughout the 70s and 80s, while studying and performing as a featured soloist with Ruth Page's Chicago Ballet. He was formally trained at Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan and United States International University in San Diego and London. He also attended Purdue University, touring internationally as a soloist with the Purdue Varsity Glee Club.
In a 30-plus year performing career he has been fortunate to work with such greats as Susan Stroman, Andy Blankenbuehler, Frank Galati, Ann Reinking, Terrence McNally, Chita Rivera, John Kander and Fred Ebb, Frank Wildhorn and Mike Ockrent, to name a few. In addition to his many projects in the Broadway community, Mr. Pelty has been nominated for two Joseph Jefferson awards in Chicago for acting - for The Drowsy Chaperone (Marriott, 2010) and Putting It Together (Porchlight, 2012). Adam currently spends the academic year in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with his wife, Hillary.
